Jesus says, “No one who puts a hand to a plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62)
This means seizing control of all matters in our lives. There are always those moments, many obstacles, and Jesus instructs us to be of the mind-set to continue to move forward in our faith, in righteousness under all circumstances.
Jesus instructs us not to become distracted by our past or overly concerned with insignificant matters in daily life which distract us from His Kingdom. What matters are of God’s Kingdom. The following are:
1. John 17:3 defines eternal life (in God’s Kingdom) as knowing the one true God (the Father) and Jesus Christ, who God sent forth, in a personal relationship. Meaning, studying Holy Scripture in the Bible in order to learn who our Creator God is and seeking wisdom and truth from God in prayer.
2. Mark 16:15, Matthew 28:19, and Luke 4:43 where Jesus said, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well: for I was sent for this purpose.” Each individual Christian is commissioned to “preach the good news of Jesus” at every opportunity. Not just at their church Bible study. Go out and preach, Jesus said. Learn how to do this. If you’re stuck at home, study the Bible with others by “zoom” meetings online, write letters, telephone people you are concerned with.
3. Proverbs 19:17 states, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord.” Matthew 25:40 “Whatever you did for one of the least of these…you did for me.” and Luke 12:33, “sell possessions and give to the poor,” and Isaiah 58:7 to share food with the hungry. We do whatever we can to help those on the outside. People we are not personally familiar with. Lending a hand in whatever way we can.
Luke 9:62 “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the Kingdom of God.” Keep our plows in the ground and push forward each and every day to eternity. Amen
