“If you want to be perfect,” Jesus said to him, “go, sell your belongings and give to the poor, and you will have treasures in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
Simple as that.
The idol in our lives? Is it our wealth, our job, our body, our possessions, our power?
The rich young ruler asked how to inherit eternal life. The man claimed to have kept all the 10 commandments; then Jesus challenged the true idol in his life: his wealth. The man walked away grieved over all his possessions. He had no inclination to place God over all of his worldly wealth.
It’s true. It’s our heart condition. Does it take losing everything? Everything we own and love to understand?
What are you hanging on to? What have you been through? What haven’t you been through? What have you suffered?
What more can you ask for than the love of your Creator and His acknowledging that you, His loyal servant; His creation is His love? You have surrendered everything and bowed to only Jesus.
