The most beautiful vision to me is running horses. Running horses galloping on beaches. Running horses galloping in meadows. Running horses stampeding together in wooded pathways. Running horses is a gift for our eyes from our Creator. What made God think to create horses I have pondered? Why did God come up with all of His remarkable creations for us to have and see?
“Running of the horses” just happened in Spain’s famous Caballos del Vino. Running horses refers to either the exhilarating natural herd stampedes or traditional equestrian festivals. Depending on your context, this could mean tracking wild mustangs in the western U.S. watching domestic herds play in winter pastures or galloping down rivers and streams under mountain tops.
God blessed me with a seventeen-acre property between the Sapphire and Bitterroot Mountains on Gold Creek Loop six miles south of Hamilton, Montana in the Bitterroot Valley south of Missoula. My property was between an Arabian horse ranch and a Paint’s horse ranch where I was blessed to see running horses every day; and running herds of Elk and deer too were also often passing through. What a sight to see for a lady born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, a city slicker.
The first time I fell in love with Montana was in Livingston when we sat on the side of a hill. Cowboys appeared suddenly on five horses. I’d seen Bonanza a hundred times but never had seen cowboys in real life. What a sight for sore eyes. I was sold on Montana that very moment.
Horses in the Bible symbolize God’s sovereignty and power. The Bible mentions horses approximately 188 times. In the Book of Job 39:19-25, God describes the horse’s might as part of His divine creation–fearless, strong, and full of purpose. Anyone who has owned a horse knows their strength sensitivity loyalty and their ability to mirror our human emotions.
Horses are a humble reminder that true power belongs to God. Have you ever researched how many kinds of horses were created? Horses are a gift from our God of love. I love horses.
